Although I prefer to do a family photo session at your home, some families prefer to go on an adventure together and have me tag along to take photos! So here’s a list of 10 ideas for an on-location family photo session around Pittsburgh!
This list does not include all of the usual awesome local parks that Pittsburgh has to offer (I have that in a different blog post) but this list includes some out-of-the-box location ideas!
#1 – Let’s go into town and hit up a local ice cream shop or bakery!
Do you live in or close to a small town like Lawrenceville, the Strip District, Butler, Sewickley or Beaver with small businesses and shops? We can walk through town and hit up a few places for snacks and goodies or just stroll through town.
#2 – We can go to your child’s favorite Park or Playground
#3- An afternoon at the museum.
-The Children’s Museum
-Carnegie Science Center
-Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Art
#4 – Visit some animals!
We can go to The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, The Pittsburgh Aviary, or Living Treasures Wild Animal Park
#5 – Let’s go on a hike!
We can go to a local park like Frick or even somewhere further out of the city like McConnells Mills and go on a hike! I am familiar with a lot of the local hiking trails and I’m happy to help you pick one that would be appropriate for your family!
#6 – Let’s go Downtown or close to the city
We could meet right in downtown like at Market Square and head over to Point State Park or cross a bridge over to the North Shore and get the city in the background of your photos!
#7 – Let’s go swimming!
We can go to a local “beach” at Raccoon Lake Park, Keystone, or even Lake Aurthur at Moraine. Bring a picnic and let the kids build sandcastles and play in the water! Or we can pick a park that has a creek! I know plenty parks close to the city that have creeks the kids can safely wade in!
#8 – How about an Amusement park or local Fair!
I can spend a couple of hours with your family at a local fair or carnival, Kennywood or another amusement park!
#9 – Let’s go to a Farm!
We can go to a local farm like Round Hill Park, Triple B’s, Schramms, etc.. Some of these places have petting zoo’s and/or pick your own fruits and markets to buy their produce!
#10 – Let’s go skating!
We can go to a local skate park and the kids can scoot, skate, blade or even ride their bikes around! This is a perfect idea if you have teens or tweens!
