If you follow my work then you may recognize this family! As a Documentary family photographer in Pittsburgh, I have photographed them a handful of times over the last few years.
This amazing Mommy to three beautiful boys really values photography and loves having their every day moments documented. She knows that babies and kids grow up much too fast and that this phase in their life is fleeting! She is very aware that within just a few days they could stop doing something they normally do, like asking for a boo boo to be kissed or to be picked up to snuggle with mama. This has become known as the “lasts”. The last time they get carried from the car when they fall asleep, the last time they sleep in a crib or the last time they want snuggled after their nap.
This Mother knows that at this very moment in time, this is the smallest they will ever be. It almost seems as if are children are growing right before our eyes. So this Mama asks me again and again to join their family to document an [extra]ordinary afternoon in their life. I capture the snuggles and the smiles and the pouts and the silliness of her children.
When I photograph a family, I want everyone to feel comfortable and to just be themselves! I want kids to just act like kids! There is no need to worry about how your toddler or child will act during your family photo session! I never want parents to stress out about how their child will behave in front of “the photographer”! I have three boys, I am well aware how kids can act up at all of the wrong times. I have seen all moods of a child like the stubbornness and even the crazy meltdowns. And guess what, this is normal and a part of childhood. And chances are, I will photograph it. But when you have a family photo session with me there is no pressure to perform! With a documentary family session there is no need to beg or bribe your children to be on their best behavior. There is also no need to do a song or dance to get anyone to fake a smile.
This beautiful family is more than just my clients, they have become friends! It is so hard to consider it a day of work when I get to hang out with an awesome family like this while taking photos of them just being themselves! I can’t wait until our next session!
