How to Find a Family Photographer Near Me

CHOOSING A FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

In this post I’ll tell you how to find and choose a family photographer in Pittsburgh, PA or in your city.

Step one: Are you in the Pittsburgh or Youngstown area?
Click the contact button on my menu to book your session!

Seriously, it’s that simple!

Ok, all joking aside, I wouldn’t want you to choose me as your family photographer if we weren’t a good match! So here’s some tips on how to find a family photographer that is a good match for you!

Do you want your photo session to take place in a studio, at your home or at the park?

One of the first things you need to decide is what kind of session do you have in mind and what kind of session is best for your unique family?

I’m a lifestyle family photographer which means that although I give my clients some direction, I do not really pose anyone. I’ll help guide your family through the session, but rather than posing you, I’ll capture more candid moments of you having fun with your children. (However, I’m always sure to pose everyone for a few photos to get images of all of you smiling and looking at the camera.)

My sessions can take place in the comfort of your own home or they can take place at a park or other location that is perfect for your family.

If you think you would prefer a session that takes place in a studio, then I’m not the right photographer for you.

Have a look at my family galleries to see examples of my lifestyle family photography.

Specialty
You want to choose a photographer that specializes in family photography. Just because someone is an amazing landscape or wedding photographer does not make them a great family photographer. Look for examples of family photo sessions on their website. Almost every professional photographer has a website, if they don’t have one, you may want to consider looking for another photographer.

Do you have a baby or toddler or maybe a tween or teen? Make sure the photographer has some experience working with the ages of your kids.

Personality
It’s not just about the style! You may see five or more websites of family photographers in Pittsburgh or your city that all have a very similar style so you may want to get a feel for the photographers’ personality! One way to do this is to check their “about me” section of their website. You want to “click” with your photographer and if you really like them, you may want to hire them for future photo sessions!

Another way to get to know a photographer is to request a phone call so you can chat with them on the phone prior to hiring them. I love chatting with potential clients on the phone before they decide to even hire me. You can also tell by things like, how long did it take them to reply to your email? Did they seem personable or was it a very generic message?

Referrals
Ask friends and family who they hired for their family photo shoot! I think personal referrals are one of the best ways to begin your journey into choosing the perfect photographer for your family I love when clients share my name with their friends and family and I built my business on the referrals of others.

However, this is not the always the best way to pick a photographer. Maybe the person that photographed your neighbors’ family is not the same style of photography that you want for your family photos.

Ask Google
Start googling terms like, “Pittsburgh (or your town/city) family photographers” or “family photographers near me”. You may want to include words like posed, candid, lifestyle, studio, etc., in your searches. Visit a variety of websites, click on their family galleries and decide if you like their style.

Also, see if they have reviews on google or even testimonials right on their website. Looking at reviews is one of my main search criteria when choosing a business for a service that I need. I’m honored to have many of my past clients share so many kind words about me on Google

I hope that this information was helpful in helping you find a family photographer in Pittsburgh or your city! I’m happy to answer any additional questions that you might have. And if you think I may be the perfect photographer for you, then please do not hesitate to get in touch!
