Is it Too Late to Schedule my Baby’s Photo Session | Highland Park Photographer

This beautiful mom contacted me last year when she was pregnant with her little boy to schedule an in-home newborn & family photo session when he was going to be a few weeks old.

In the Spring, her sweet baby boy was born but as it tends to do…life happened. Our session was rescheduled a few times due to sickness in their family, work, travel, and well, just the busyness of life. Before she knew it, her adorable newborn baby boy was seven months old.

A woman, wearing a blue dress, sits on a bench holding a smiling baby dressed in a striped romper. The scene is on a porch with plants in the background.

But you know what, that’s ok! Life happens! As a Highland Park photographer, I’m flexible and happy to pivot as needed to work with your busy schedule.

As a Mom and a photographer, I understand 100% that life happens! Kids get sick, you have to get back to work, vacations and activities get scheduled and sometimes it can feel near impossible to fit one more thing into your schedule.

So if you’re wondering, is it too late to schedule my baby’s photo session? The answer is never!

If for one reason or another, you never got around to scheduling a newborn session and your baby is 3, 6, or 36 months old, I promise you it’s never too late to schedule the session!

And I absolutely love photographing older babies!

A family of four sits on the front steps of a porch. The parents smile at the camera, with a young daughter in a purple dress and a baby on the mother's lap. The house is brick with a wooden door.

Of course, the session will look a little different than when your baby is tiny and new, but I wholeheartedly believe having a session with your older baby is 100% better than having no photos at all in their first year of life! And that first year of your baby’s life flies by faster than we can ever accept or be comfortable with.

Take it from me, a Mom with older kids who never got around to scheduling the session and I will not even get into how much I regret it!

Two images: Left shows a couple with a child, all sitting on porch steps, backs to camera. Right shows the same couple and child on steps; the child is on the mother’s lap playing with a toy.
A man and woman sitting on an outdoor bench with a baby. The baby is standing on the woman's lap, reaching towards the man. The setting is a porch with greenery and brick walls in the background.

So instead of sleepy swaddled baby photos, I captured a fun afternoon of this family hanging out together at their beautiful historic home in the Highland Park neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

-Big sister showed me her strawberry plants in the backyard, danced around and showed me all the fun things in her bedroom.
-We woke baby brother from his nap (I have never met a more pleasant baby that was just woken from a nap!) and we took photos in his room.
-I photographed them as they played together in the living room and big sister showed me her camera!
-We headed outside to play and hang out on their big porch.

I really could not have asked for a more perfect session! An at-home baby and family photo session can look like just a casual couple of hours of your family doing your usual things together!

And having the session at your home makes it 1000X times more special!

I know I always say it, but I loved hanging out with this family! I just love it when a family invites me into their home and can be their perfectly imperfect selves while allowing me to photograph it. Thank you for inviting me to document a few hours of your beautiful family together!

I promise it is never too late to schedule a session for your new baby! And I will not allow you to have any Mom guilt about not being able to do it sooner! Late is better than never!
