I love to meet with the expecting parents before they decide to hire me as their birth photographer.   Because birth is such an intimate life event, I want the soon to be mom to be sure that she wants me to attend and document her birth.  However, some of my clients are happy with just chatting on the phone or via Skype before they make their decision.   I knew after chatting with this expecting Mom for a few hours at Starbucks that we were going to be a wonderful match!   I was so impressed with how well she educated herself and planned for the birth of her first baby!    They decided to not find out the gender and Mom planned to deliver without an epidural.

I received a text from her husband at 6 a.m. on July 26th that she was in labor and I left for the hospital soon after they did.
By 9:30 a.m. her water had broke and she was at 6cm, but she was still in triage waiting on a room.
By 10am they were in a room and I joined them and began documenting their birth story

Her contractions became very close and intense once she was in the delivery room.

She hired an amazing doula to help her through her natural labor.
Her doula was so wonderful and supportive throughout the labor and delivery.
And her doctor and the nurses on duty at Magee Women’s Hospital were also very supportive of her decision to forego an epidural.

She was experiencing a lot of back labor (I know this pain all too well) so I know how
great it was to have her doula and her husband there to support her through each contraction.

I love surprise gender births!  Mom bought both of these shirts for the soon to be Dad!

When a Mom chooses to labor without an epidural she is able to walk around the bed, stand,
sway, squat and get into many other birthing positions to help her get through each contraction.

 My client’s Mom was also in the room for the delivery of her Granddaughter!
I love when Grandmother’s are there to witness the birth!

And…..It’s a GIRL!

And that moment that you finally have the baby that you carried for nine long months, in your arms.

Welcome to the word baby Julianna!

I love when there is family in the waiting room!
This family patiently waited a long time to hear that baby was finally here!
I loved being able to document these moments for them!
