Usually when I grab my camera to capture a few photos for my 365 photo-a-day project, it happens to be just as the sun sets on our farm out in Beaver County, PA. We are fortunate to live on a beautiful piece of property and it is hard to not be outside as the sun sets each evening. I usually only shoot for 10-15 minutes and take just a few photos before I put my camera safely back in the house and play frisbee or catch ball with my husband and boys. But some nights, I take more than a few photos and I document a bit more. Tonight, my six year old son Silas was collecting chestnuts for extra chore money so I decided to document that as well as a few other things, like my CHICKENS!
The husks of the chestnut are super sharp and spiky! You have to wear gloves while handling them, or you will regret it!
It’s also not a smart idea to walk near the trees while barefoot. I think everyone in my family has learned that the hard way!
Chestnuts are a favorite fall treat around here, they are best boiled or roasted.
We have around 50 chickens on our farm. They always think I have treats for them, so they all come running at me when I walk by the hen house.
This makes it easy to photograph them because they are so curious and come right up to my camera.
And just as the last of the sun dipped behind the trees I ran out to the fields to pick a bouquet of my zinnia’s!
This will probably be the last bouquet that I will get to pick before all of the flowers die in the crisp fall air.
All of these were photos were taken with my newest lens, the Sigma 24mm ART lens. It is a wide angle lens that I am learning to love,
so I tend to shoot with it for personal photos while I decide if I love it or not ;)
