One of the last things that I photographed in 2018 was the birth of a beautiful baby girl! I photographed the birth of this couple’s first baby girl 18 month ago and I was so excited to document the birth of their second daughter. Their first birth at West Penn was one of my favorite birth stories! However, things went a little different this time around when this baby surprised everyone by arriving six weeks early! She decided that she did not want to wait until 2019 to make her entrance into the world. Thankfully she weighed in at almost six pounds and she was doing amazing right after birth.
The protocol of this hospital is to take preterm babies to the NICU very shortly after birth to be evaluated. Mom got to hold her new daughter for a few minutes then handed her baby over to the wonderful NICU nurses. Thankfully this sweet girl was released from the NICU just two weeks after her birth-day! Mom and Dad were the only ones permitted in the NICU so I was unable to fully tell this birth story like I did for their first baby. But once they were all settled in at home I went to their house for more photos! So stay tuned for another blog post with part two of this birth story.
Unlike the fist birth, this time the Grandmother and Grandfather came all the way from California to be there for the birth of their granddaughter! Grandma stuck around for the delivery and the Grandfather came back in after baby was born. I have attended a handful of births where the Grandma got to be there for he delivery, I think that is so very special!
