Here is the full blog post from a recent birth story that I documented for a wonderful couple at Magee Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. I always meet with my potential clients in person before I even take a deposit for the birth session because I want to make sure that we are the right fit for each other. Birth is such an intimate event, I not only want them to love my work, I want them to meet me first and hopefully like me! Thankfully, I have yet to meet with an expecting couple that did not hire me. This couple was just so sweet and wonderful, it was so amazing to witness them becoming parents.
Although my clients receive both color and black and white digital files, I tend to favor black and white images for birth stories, so I thought I would share more color images this time.
I loved that my clients parents and her brother kept her company for most of her labor. They really helped make the time pass faster for her, and for all of us! (we were all there for over 11 hours but honestly, it did not feel nearly that long!)
Although I arrived in the morning, this strong Mama labored all day until after the sun set. When I photograph a birth, I never use a flash. I find that this can be distracting to the laboring mom, her labor partner and the birth team of midwives, Doctors and nurses. (not to mention a brand new baby) I choose to work with the light that is available. I find that this can also create beautiful moody images that truly represent the lighting when your baby was born.
These two made such an amazing birth team! He was so supportive and present throughout her long labor.
Their beautiful son was born at 7:06 pm at 8lb 2oz and 21″ long!
Congratulations to this beautiful couple on the birth of their first baby!
He is perfect and precious and so lucky to have such amazing and loving parents!
