6 Photo Session Locations with Spring Cherry Blossoms in Pittsburgh

Are you looking for a location for a photo session with the spring cherry blossom trees in Pittsburgh?

As a Pittsburgh photographer who has photographed hundreds of families in dozens of locations around the city, I’ve come to know where all of the best spots are. In this post, I’m sharing six of my favorite places around Pittsburgh to find beautiful redbud and cherry blossom trees in the spring, which are perfect for a photo session. And even if you’re not looking for a photoshoot, this is a great guide on where to find the spring cherry blossoms around Pittsburgh!

Did you know that Pittsburgh has over 6,000 flowering trees in April!? You can find all of the trees with this handy interactive map. And check out Visit Pittsburgh’s website for their Insider’s Guide to Pittsburgh Redbuds.

Typically, the best bloom times are in late March through April! (depending on the weather)
Pink cherry trees will bloom first in late March, followed by the redbuds and white apple tree blossoms.

And if you’re looking for a family photographer to photograph your family with the spring blossom flowers, I’d love to be your photographer! Send me a message for all the details!

1. Point State Park – Downtown

Point State Park is right in downtown Pittsburgh and a perfect location for pictures with the blossoming trees!

Top left: Two boys standing on grass with blooming trees. Top right: Family of five posing in a park. Bottom left: Boy playing. Bottom right: Pittsburgh's city skyline with a rainbow over the river, capturing stunning locations for photo sessions.

There are redbud trees with pink blossoms, cherry tree blossoms, and many other trees with beautiful white flowers on them! The best time to go is in April, but the actual date will vary each spring depending on the weather. Check out the Redbud Project page for locations and their bloom forecast!

Point State Park also has so much more to offer than just the flowering trees. While you are there, you’ll find a view of the stadiums on the north shore and the rivers on each side of the point.

Convenient Parking can be found here and here at the Gateway Center Garage. You may also find metered street parking in the area.

2. Three Rivers Heritage Trail – North Shore

The Three Rivers Heritage Trail is a riverfront walkway that goes right by the stadiums on the North Shore with a view of the city across the river! You’ll definitely want to check this area out in the Spring!

Trees with pink spring blossoms line a walkway with street lamps; perfect for photo sessions in Pittsburgh. A building with the word "CENTER" partially visible stands in the background under a clear blue sky.

Thanks to The Pittsburgh Redbud Project, they planted thousands of Redbud trees along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail that grow gorgeous pink blossoms in the Spring! And check out this great map!

While on the TRHT, you’ll pass under the Sister Bridges (the Clemente, Warhol, and Carson Street). Be sure to check out Allegheny Landing, which recently underwent renovations!

You can find street parking on or near Isabella Street or find a nearby parking lot.

3. Mellon Park – Shadyside

Mellon Park and The Walled Garden is a gorgeous park with a variety of architectural features and beautiful gardens! In the spring, you can find redbud and cherry blossoms, a large magnolia tree, and a daffodil meadow!

A family of three poses together outdoors near blooming trees and a brick gate on a sunny day, capturing the beauty of spring blossoms during photo sessions in Pittsburgh.

The Magnolia tree in the images above is located between the walled garden and the Phipps Garden Center, and the pink redbud tree is in the driveway from the parking lot linked above.

Please note that this is a hot spot for photo sessions! Expect to see quite a few other photographers there with their clients, especially on weekend evenings before sunset.

There is free parking here on Beechwood Blvd. and a paid parking right next to the walled garden.

A collage of four photos shows women and young children outdoors in spring, surrounded by blooming trees and flowers during spring blossoms photo sessions in Pittsburgh, enjoying nature and each other's company.

These pink blossoms can be found in the front of the park, closer to the 5th Avenue entrance. The tulips are by the walled garden, and you can find a daffodil meadow here. And you can find the white apple blossoms near the tiered garden area!

Here is a more detailed blog post about Mellon Park and the Walled Gardens.

4. Allegheny Commons Park – North Side

Located next to the National Aviary, you’ll find the beautiful Allegheny Commons Park, where you can find Lake Elizabeth with a bridge, as well as blossoming trees in the Spring! Perfect for a photo session!

6. North Park – North Hills / Wexford

North Park is not within the city, but worth the drive to the North Hills! You will find pretty pink blossoming cherry trees by the North Park boathouse and near the lake in the spring, thanks to The Pittsburgh Sakura Project! Check out their blossom forecast page!

Please note that for Spring of 2026, the blossom forecast for North Park is not looking great.

Many thanks to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, The Pittsburgh Redbud Project and many volunteers, for their massive effort in planting so many trees! “In an effort that began in 2008, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has planted more than 42,000 trees along streets in 82 City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods, in business districts, parks and public spaces in 59 municipalities across Allegheny County and in towns including Ligonier, Erie, New Kensington, Jeannette, Monessen and Johnstown. Our work to plant more trees to increase and sustain healthy urban forests is done through our community forestry program.”
