Family Photo Session at Home | Mary Beth Miller Photography
………

I photographed this family a couple of years ago and it has always been one of my very favorite in-home family photo sessions!  I was very excited to get to photograph them again as they recently welcomed a new baby!  One of the reasons I really loved this session is because this beautiful Mama has three adorable boys. Hanging out with them for an afternoon really took me back to when my three were younger. I clearly remember the pure exhaustion and chaos mixed with overwhelming love for three little ones. It was a bittersweet time of never wanting them to grow up yet wanting them to be a more independent.

What I don’t remember (#sleepdeprivation) is a lot of the little every day moments during those seemingly long days that filled those very short years. This Mama gets a lot of credit for inviting me into her home to capture those everyday moments for her.  To allow me to photograph the snuggles, the laughter and the beautiful chaos of their every day. I encouraged her to not worry about their outfits and to wear the clothes they normally wear.  I asked her to not stress about the pile of clean laundry or anything else she was worried about not being picture perfect. Humans are imperfectly beautiful. Especially humans that just had a baby and two other little ones to care for. Laundry piles, toys all about and dishes in the sink are normal and realistic! I never want my clients to worry about these things or allow these things to prevent them from booking an in home family session. I want them to embrace their reality and be ok with it! Besides, I don’t really photograph your piles of laundry or dishes in the sink. Unless your kid is burying himself in your laundry pile or pulls up a chair to the sink…   #reallifeisbeautiful #getinthephotos

Here are just a few images from my afternoon with them.  Stayed tuned for a full blog post from my session with this family!

If you didn’t get around to having a photo session during those first and very brief couple of weeks after your baby was born, it’s ok. It’s never too late. Although I love to capture a newborn while they are tiny and new, I also love a photo session with a chubby, smiling and cooing baby. Sometimes life happens. Sometimes Mom is not ready for a session. Sometimes your newborn session takes place when your baby is three months old. And that’s ok.
