Happy 2019!! This is my first blog post of the New Year! And what better way to begin a new year than blogging a session from late last year with one of my favorite families! I love working with this family and it’s not just because they have three boys like myself, but I love that MOM really gets my style and what I love to photograph. She understands and loves that I want to capture the everyday moments of a family. She gets that sometimes that means embracing the chaos and having photos of the fun times and the not so fun times. I know that she cherishes the images of her kids just being themselves while spending an ordinary day in the comfort of their own home!
For this session she wanted some photos to document her family decorating the Christmas tree and I am so glad that she suggested this! I know a decade or four from now, she will love looking back to see these images of her little boys decorating the tree together!
I honestly just love this style of photography for families. This kind of candid family photo session can be known by a few different names. Some may refer to it as documentary, journalistic, lifestyle or storytelling. I am not one that is big on putting a label on things, but it is most closely related to documentary photography. With this kind of photo session, I give very little direction to the families and just photograph them doing what they normally would be doing. With lifestyle sessions, like my newborn sessions, I give more direction to my clients.
