In-home lifestyle newborn photo sessions add a personal touch to capturing your baby’s first special moments with your family.
Unlike studio photography, lifestyle newborn photo sessions take place in the comfort of your home, capturing not just the precious moments of your newborn with parents and siblings, but also the style, design, and aesthetic of the home you lovingly created.
In this post, I’m sharing images from a couple and their gorgeous new baby girl (and their adorable fur-kids) in their beautiful home in the Coraopolis area of Pittsburgh. I LOVED their style and home decor!

Your home is a reflection of your family’s personality and style. By choosing to have your newborn photo session at home, the backdrop for your photos is uniquely yours. Whether your home decor is modern minimalist, cozy rustic, country farmhouse, bohemian, or an eclectic mix (like mine!) each element adds a personal touch to the photographs.
I will always believe that your home is the perfect “backdrop” for a photo session!

I love to showcase the uniqueness of each family and session I photograph. Some families have homes and wardrobes with mainly neutral colors like whites, grays, and beiges while others embrace colors in their clothing and home decor.

Your home decor helps set the tone and vibe for your photo session. The pieces you choose add character and make your photos more special, while also sharing a bit of your family’s style and story.
Your home’s decor style also greatly influences how your photos will turn out. Elements like wall and accent colors, the outfits everyone wears, and the natural lighting all contribute to the final images.

When you have photos taken in your home, I love to include special items that hold sentimental value. Items like a baby cradle or rocking chair that’s been passed down through generations or a custom-made quilt in the nursery become natural “props” in your photos.

One of my favorite things about being an in-home newborn photographer is being invited into a family’s home and seeing how they chose to decorate it! I don’t have a strong talent for home decor. It takes me years to decide on a paint color and I’ve had empty photo frames hanging on my walls for two years because I cannot decide what images to print!
So I love to see others’ family photos, houseplants, tchotchkes (knick-knacks), furniture and wall colors! (Yes, I will ask you the specific name of your wall color for inspiration!) And I love how every home I enter is so unique which makes their galley of images uniquely theirs!
I also love hearing your stories about the items in your home. Tell me all about the great-aunt who hand-stitched the quilt hanging on the crib, the grandfather who made the cradle, the MCM dresser you scored on Marketplace for a steal, or the perfect crib mobile you searched months for on Etsy.

Having an in-home session also means capturing the details of the nursery you thoughtfully curated for your precious baby. I loved everything in this nursery, especially the wallpaper, curtain rod finials, and the little touches like the mushroom pillow and handstitched sweater!

Every home also has unique architectural features that add to the “backdrop” for your images. Elements like a fireplace, a cozy window seat, or stained glass windows of an older home, show the character of your home. I’ve seen so many beautiful original stained glass windows in old homes around Pittsburgh.
And I always love to guess what decade a home was built!

My goodness, isn’t this precious baby girl just pure perfection? Those lips, cheeks, and beautiful head of hair with hints of red like her gorgeous mama!

I also LOVE to see a couple’s wedding photos hanging on the wall! This mama had a few giant prints hanging from their engagement session and wedding!

Thank you to this family, and every family who invites me into their beautiful home! I never take for granted entering such a sacred and private space and I know there is a touch of vulnerability to having a photo session inside your home.

In-home newborn photo sessions are a great way to celebrate your baby’s arrival and capture memories that reflect your family’s style. Embrace the uniqueness of your home, and let it shine through in your gallery of photos!
