In my last post, I answered when is the best time to contact a newborn photographer. As a Valencia newborn photographer, I’ll tell you in this post what the best age is to schedule your newborn photos.
I also included images from one of my recent newborn photo sessions with a precious baby girl that was born on Halloween!
So, when is the best time for a photo shoot for your newborn baby?
The answer that you will typically receive to this question is before your baby is older than two weeks old.
However, I always stress to parents (that are booking with me) that it is 100% absolutely and totally ok to wait until your baby is a little older!
Sure, your baby can be ready for a photo shoot at one day or one week old but it is not the baby I am worried about! I am more concerned if Mom is feeling ready! In my opinion, it is way more important that the Mom (ok, Dad too) is feeling up to having a 1-2 hour photo session.
This is especially important if Mom had a long and intense labor or if the baby was delivered via Cesarean. In these cases, most moms are not going to feel up to a photo session a week or so after delivering their baby.
It is important to note, however, that if you are booking a newborn session with a studio newborn photographer that poses your baby, then it is ideal to get that session booked before baby is two weeks old. In this case, the photographer will need a baby that is super sleepy and still super new so they have a better chance of successfully posing your baby.
I, on the other hand, am not that kind of photographer. Rather than shooting very posed images, I take a lifestyle approach to photographing your newborn. This basically means I do not pose your baby, rather I allow them to naturally “pose” themselves. You can read more about that here…
POSED NEWBORN PHOTO SESSIONS AND WHY I QUIT DOING THEM
If you book a newborn photo session with me, I am happy to photograph your baby at two weeks old or two months old.
Check out his post on why I love to photograph older babies!
I photographed this big sister for the first time when she was just three years old, and a few times since then! I was so elated when Mom contacted me to tell me she was expecting another daughter and wanted to book newborn photos!
Baby Madison is just so very sweet and she was so calm throughout our session. I’m so honored to have met her and captured these images for her family.
Hopefully you can’t tell that is was a very typical dark, dreary and rainy Pittsburgh day. Good thing I have a lot of practice shooting in those conditions!
And these are the very kind words I received from Mom after she viewed her online gallery…
“Oh my goodness, I just looked over the gallery and my heart exploded!! They are all perfect! Thank you so much. From one Mom to another these are priceless, and I got teary eyed looking at them. You are truly an artist, and i’m so grateful that you came over to photograph such a special moment in my life.”
If you’re looking for a newborn baby photographer in Valencia, McCandless or in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, please get in touch to inquire about a session! I’d love to plan a unique photo session for your new baby!
