What if My Baby Cries or Fusses the Whole Session!? | Greenfield Newborn Photographer

This beautiful new Mom contacted me when her baby was two months old to schedule a newborn and family photo session in their home in the Greenfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh. She was worried that her new baby boy would be fussy during their session. I often get other new parents who are concerned that their baby will fuss or cry during the majority of their newborn photo session.

A mother tenderly holding her sleeping baby in her lap on a white armchair, with a blue and white knitted blanket draped over the back.

Like I say to other concerned moms, I assured her that in the last 15 years of being a newborn photographer, I never had a too fussy baby!

Since I shoot lifestyle newborn photo sessions and I do not pose babies in many fancy poses, the baby is often in the arms of their parents during most of the session. This almost always makes the baby feel more secure and content which makes for a less fussy baby.

I also make sure to save plenty of time during my in-home photo sessions to allow baby to take the time to feed, have diaper changes, or just get comforted by their parents. So if the baby does get fussy at any time, we stop and address the baby’s needs to make them happy and content!

Frequently, the baby does not like to be laid down, so if I lay a baby down in a crib, cradle, or on the bed, etc., and they start to fuss, then I scoop them back up and hand them back over to Mom or Dad! I never want to do anything to make baby discontent!

And when you need to change, feed, rock, or comfort your baby, I’m going to keep taking photos! (If you are nursing, I will first make sure you are comfortable with it, if not, no problem!) I think capturing those real life “in-between” moments are so important and those kinds of images deserve to be in your gallery!

I’ll even capture photos of your baby crying because I happen to think their little grumpy faces are super adorable!

So although some parents may be worried their baby will be fussy for their newborn photo session, rest assured that this is most likely not going to happen! One of my goals for a newborn photo session is to keep it as stress-free as possible!

And I know someone who worries about things will not feel better by being told not to worry, I’m going to tell you, please do not worry! I’m a very experienced photographer and confident that your session will go smoothly and your baby will not fuss the whole time!
