Wexford Family Photo Session at Mellon Park | Pittsburgh Photographer

I was so happy to work with this adorable family again who came from their home in Wexford to meet me at Mellon Park in Pittsburgh for their family photo session!

Mellon Park’s Walled Garden has become a “hot spot” for photographers and photo sessions because it is one of the most beautiful city parks in Pittsburgh! Thankfully we got lucky and had the park to ourselves for most of their morning photo session. But fair warning, often the park has multiple, if not many other photographers taking pictures of families throughout the park, especially on the weekend in the late afternoon just before sunset.

Mellon is unique because it has gorgeous maintained gardens (that are cared for my a team of gardeners) and beautiful architectural features. You will find a newly renovated water fountain with statues, the brick walls of the walled garden, multiple black iron gates, a few sets of stairs and so much more.

You can find an array of blooming flowers throughout the spring and into the late fall. In the fall you will love the beautiful Gingko trees full of bright yellow leaves that line the pathway adjacent to the center lawn. Just by those trees are a couple of white birch trees that can be hard to locate in the Pittsburgh area.

From their website: “The Garden offers a mix of flowering trees, shrubs, and perennials. A noteworthy plant is the Japanese Stewartia tree, which blossoms in June. It is a slow-growing tree and not commonly found in the local area. The first flowers to start blooming in the Garden are daffodils, followed by a variety of blooms that continue through the season, later concluding with the Fall Anemone.”

You can also get married within the walled gardens and they hold a few different festivals and events here throughout the year!

Although it was a very humid and hot summer morning, this family did such an awesome job for their photos!

I had the honor of photographing both big sister and little brother when they were babies! As always, I love to see these little ones each year as they grow up! These cuties are pretty close in age and I love that little brother is about the same size as his big sister!

I also loved that mom had the idea to bring along their bubble machine! Obviously, this is always a hit with little ones and we captured some really fun bubble photos!

It was so wonderful to hang out and photograph this lovely Wexford family again for their photo shoot at Mellon Park! I look forward to seeing them again next year!


Although I tend to prefer to take photos at my clients homes (which I have done twice with this family) I don’t mind changing it up sometimes and photographing families in the park!
