20 activities to do during your family session at home

Are you worried about what to do during your at-home family photo session? First, I do not want you to feel like you have to do anything! I can just capture your family doing whatever you usually do together! Even if it’s unorganized chaos!

A family in a living room: two children jump excitedly while an adult reaches up to catch a ball, and another adult sits on the sofa with a toddler—just one of 20 activities to do during your family session at home.

I prefer that you do an activity or two that your family regularly does together, but if you need some guidance, here’s a list of 20+ activities you can do with your family on the day of your photo session.

INDOOR ACTIVITIES

#1. You can make breakfast or lunch, cookies, pancakes, or just prepare a snack together!

#2. Read books together

#3. Play make-believe; play vet with stuffed animals, or doctor with dolls, put on a puppet show or play restaurant where the kids play chef and serve the parents pretend food

#4. Play with their favorite toys

#6. Do a craft, color or paint.

During a cozy family photo session at home, loved ones gather around a kitchen island, coloring in a book with crayons. Two children are immersed in the activity while adults offer guidance. Everyday kitchen items provide a comforting backdrop to this cherished moment together.

#7. Bring out the musical instruments!

A young boy plays the piano in a living room while two children sit together on an armchair reading a book—just one of the 20 activities to do during your family session at home.
