The short answer to this is yes! Of course, I photograph families outdoors! However, read further into this post explaining how I photograph families outside and have a look at some images from a recent session with an adorable family of four at their Warrendale home.
“Hi! I was hoping to schedule a family session. We’re interested in photos at our house and the park down the road.”
I LOVE when I receive emails like this… Yes, please!!
For this family’s session, I met them at their home where we took photos outside in the front yard (which included bubbles!), then we headed to their favorite park and playground up the street and came back to their house for ice cream and a few more family photos on the back deck.
Your at-home family session can look something like this! We can spend the majority of the time inside, or outside or a little bit of both. And I’m happy to join your family at your favorite local park, ice cream shop, cafe, local downtown center, etc.
If you have spent any time clicking around my website or following me on social media, then you may already know that I love and prefer to photograph families at their homes! When I photograph a family at their home, I love to get photos inside, but depending on the weather, we can also go outside! I like to get photos on the porch, stoop, deck and in the front or backyard.
However, when someone asks me if I photograph families outside, they are usually referring to an on-location session such as a local park. The answer to this is yes, I will consider photographing your family at a location other than your home!
First, I will tell you all of the reasons I think you should stay home for your family photo session, then I will give you an answer to all of your concerns about having a photo session at your house.
Listen, I know most people are worried about having photos inside their homes. People often worry it is too small, cluttered, messy, etc., but I promise this is never the case!
I also have families worry about what they will do while I am there. What I want you to do, is just be yourselves! And I have a great blog post about this and another giving you a list of activities to do in case you need some ideas!
But if you are still hesitant about having the session at your home and set on doing your session somewhere else, that is ok too. I prefer to meet at a park or location where your family has been and may be special to your family, but I will give you some location choices that are close to you or you can let me know what you have in mind!
I absolutely loved meeting and working with this adorable family! It reminded me so much of my own when I had 2 little boys about the same ages! It was an honor to get to hang out and photograph them!
And here are the amazingly kind words mom left on my Google profile!
“Mary Beth is a true professional and has a true talent. Normally I would say my children are afraid of the camera, but she managed to make even our shyest kid comfortably come out of his shell. She captured precious moments of our crazy family that we’ll cherish forever. Thank you Mary Beth!” -R
