Lactation and Breastfeeding Support in the Pittsburgh Area

As a Pittsburgh Newborn Photographer, I often meet new (and experienced) moms who have a bumpy start to their breastfeeding journey. I completely understand how hard and frustrating this can be, so I always try to point these Moms in the right direction to get them the help they need!

When I’m at their home for a newborn session, I’m happy to give them some tips on the best positions to hold the baby and how to get a proper latch. However, I am not a professional lactation consultant.

So in this post, I will provide you with a list of Lactation and Breastfeeding providers in the greater Pittsburgh area that can help you.

As an experienced breastfeeding Mother, I had a very rough start to nursing my third son. With my first two babies, breastfeeding was relatively easy from the start, so it was extra frustrating when I experienced pain and latch issues with my third baby.

There were a lot of tears for both of us and I began to feel defeated with his poor latch and the pain I was experiencing. Pain that I had never felt with my other babies. Thankfully, my midwife from the Midwife Center in Pittsburgh referred me to the Breastfeeding Center of Pittsburgh to schedule a consultation.

It turns out my baby boy had a pretty bad tongue tie which resulted in my pain and his poor latch. We had more consults with a doctor and eventually had his tongue tie corrected. Within a few days, nursing him became so much easier for both of us.

If you are having difficulty nursing your little one, I urge you to please reach out to one of these professional lactation consultants to help you and your newborn baby. And most of them offer in-home or virtual consultations!
